I tend to keep things simple when I’m drinking beer. Budweiser, Bud Light, Heineken are the go-to move. Over the years of drinking them with consistency has made their taste a bit dull to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve drank a ton of different kinds of beer, but nothing with much frequency. I can’t even remember the last time I actually sat back, relaxed, and really enjoyed a good beer.
A friend of mine just recently moved to Astoria, and I spent this past weekend visiting him. His place is awesome because it’s right next to a busy strip that has a lot of good bars and nightlife. Towards the end of the night, we wander into this Irish bar called Gilbey’s. Supposedly, as my friend tells me, their Guinness is really good. I’d never been a fan of dark beers, but it had been a couple years so I gave it a shot.
Well, I gave it three shots because I ended up drinking three of them. It was smooth, and went down smoother than any beer I’ve had before. I had actually taken a step back and couldn’t help but appreciate it. That is what drinking beer is all about – developing your taste, trying new beers, and sitting back and enjoying it.
If you’re one of those people like me who doesn’t drink dark beers but hasn’t tried one in a while, I highly recommend giving it another shot because you might be in for a real pleasant surprise.
